The article, “Rethinking Blogs as medium for ads” talks about blogs becoming a new medium for readers to be swayed to buy products. According to Jupiter Research, marketers are missing a good way to sell their products. Jupiter Research conducted a study a study for Buzz Logic, which is an ad network. Their research says that blog readers find blogs useful for purchase information. Also, readers trust blogs more than social networking sites for influencing purchasing decisions, “forty percent of research said they prefer blog links over search engines for discovering new content”.
Rob Crumpler, chief executive office at Buzz Logic talked about advertisers changing attitudes toward blogs. In his interview, what he found most interesting was that the consumer search behavior is changing. A large part of today’s web audience consumes information online. Also, Crumpler stated that if the author relationship is strong, then media will have the most impact. Not to mention, blogs have matured and its context has more influence nowadays. Crumpler notes that blogs are an alternative traditional media in terms of news. One important fact is that people want media that they can trust or can at least create on their own.
This article was chosen because blogs are becoming a very popular medium. In fact, we use this form of media in class. We use blogging to communicate ideas, thoughts, and opinions on different topics. What makes blogging so interesting is that it has grown tremendously over the years. Through reading this article, it has gave insight to how much blogging will continue to grow. As a means of advertising, participants will engage more in blogging because of its popularity and will most likely be the best way of advertising.
This article relates to the text book on page 305. The text mentions how they would not be surprised if kids would not have time to watch plain old television. Blogging is one of the medias that is taking over with Myspace, Neopets, and Youtube. This relates because it shows how much participating is online. People are using online sources more and more everyday. With children, teens, and adults using blogs more often, the amount of advertisement will definitely go up because of how much participation there is.
